I have an interest in using O and H isotope to trace the movement of surface water (rain) into aquifers and we have long-term data that are being applied to estimate the rate of recharge in springs on Table Mountain (Keo Halenyane, MSc 2018). I have extended this to look at the variation in groundwater isotope composition in the greater Cape Town area. We have applied for funding to the City of Cape Town but, so far, this project is not funded and has stalled. I have two MSc students doing water projects; one is constructing an isoscape (a map of the variation in isotope composition) of rainfall and groundwater over the whole country (co-supervised by Adam West), and a second project looking at the variation in groundwater O-, H- and Sr-isotope composition in southern Mozambique (with Jodie Miller at SUN).
