Herman Meyer

My academic training and interest as a development economist and practitioner with a specific interest in sustainability and human capital development and data for development and policy making.

Current interests (aligned to possible Future Water Work)

  • Inter-disciplinary project design including the Resilient Future Community of Practice (CoP) project, GCRF
  • Mining Research Day and publication (MLiA & MtM)
  • Operationalising SDG’s (AGA)
  • Mine Care institute

I am currently also working with Mike Solomon on the development of Minecare and assisting with the establishment of a research focus at UCT on the SDG’s. A first project is to set up an initiative to use data for development. I am also involved in initiatives aimed at understanding, analyzing and changing patterns of consumption of water and energy at schools. This includes introducing and optimizing water and sustainability as key themes in the school curriculum. I also have a specific interest in the role of water in sustainability and how it is addressed in the SDG’s. Given my project design and management experience I will also be able to assist with those aspects as well as development of funding and research proposals.
