Research direction and strategy
Broadly speaking, the Institute is concerned about research on water sensitivity in the planning, design, management, environment, health and socio-technological contributions of settlements, with added emphasis on equity, improved governance and socio-cultural diversity.
This is specifically addressed in four research directions:
- Environmental (protection of natural water resources)
- Industrial (technical options and uses of water, water as part of the process, water as a waste resource)
- Economic (cost benefit and viability i.e. do the associated benefits come at additional cost)
- People (addressing socio-cultural and institutional challenges and resistance)
and, importantly, the interaction between these.
